With the beautiful smell of citrus drifting on the gentle sea breeze, the bride makes her entrance and walks down the aisle to stand along side her groom. The private villa which is perched on the cliffside overlooks the glistening waters of the Mediterranean sea. The sun rays are softened by intertwined vines which have formed a protective shelter over the wedding couple. The couple exchange their vows in front of their delighted guests and once the ceremony has finished they congratulate the happy couple and raise their glasses of chilled champagne to celebrate their good health and happiness. Once everyone has been torn away from the idyllic spot the wedding party take to their cars, which are all decorated in ribbons, to weave along the narrow coastal roads to arrive at the breathtaking wedding reception venue.

The large terrace for the wedding breakfast appears to float over the glistening blue water. Freshly caught fish and seafood along with sparkling white wine provide the guests with a feast fit for such a special occasion. The gentle background music relax and unwind the wedding party as the sun finally disappears over the sea's horizon and the moon takes its place. Candles flicker with the movement of the gentle sea breeze and the sound of laughter fills the warm summer night.

Wedding Amalfi Coast – setting the scene

The German writer Goethe was so inspired by the Sorrento coastline that he dedicated a prose to the area.

"Do you know the land where the lemons are in flower?
In the green leaves golden oranges shine
A quiet wind blows from the blue sky
Quiet is the myrtle, serene the laurel
Do you know it well?
There, there
I would like with you, my love, to go!"

This spectacular and infamous coastline has centuries of history engraved into the rugged cliffs. The old palaces balance precariously on the cliff tops and offer the most breath-taking views along the coastline and out over the Mediterranean sea. Springtime brings an explosion to the senses with the groves of lemons and oranges, warmed up by the rays of the sun, emitting their sweet fragrance onto the salted sea breeze. The refreshing and temperate weather of springtime is perfect for your wedding on the Amalfi Coast in Italy.

The picturesque and quaint fishing village of Furore can be found off the beaten path. The newer part of the town is decorated with paintings of the area by local artists who were encouraged by a previous mayor to put the village on the map. As you walk down the path towards the coastline you could probably still miss the oldest part of the town – the ‘borgo’ where the Fishermen live in houses that desperately cling to a rocky gorge. To get the best view it is recommended to go down to the quiet beach, and while you are there, why not sample the local white and red wines, which are named after the charming village. These wines are perfect for your Amalfi wedding in Italy.

The rugged and rough edges of the cliff face are lined with secret ‘grotte’ (caves) which interrupt the coastline and are not normally visible from land. These caves have been created by the strength of the sea which over the years has worn away the rock. One cave in particular, the ‘Grotta dello Smeraldo’ (Emerald Cave) is astoundingly beautiful, the green light floods into the cave and the unique lighting conditions produce an emerald jewel effect on the walls of the cave. The journey to the cave by boat is relaxing due to the hypnotic sound of oars lapping the cave waters with the sound resonating all around you and bouncing off the cave walls.

Looking back at the cliffs from the water you will see villas and terraces embracing the cliffsides. As the sun sets over the Mediterranean, the warmth of the sun turns the sea into glistening tones of reds, oranges and pinks before disappearing over the horizon. The darkness which fills the sky is interrupted by bright glow of the full moon and the faint twinkling of the night stars which are reflected in the sea. The lights along the coastline also appear to twinkle to imitate the night stars – bringing a beautiful ending to your Amalfi wedding in Italy.
